DescriptionJob Summary
The Credit Review Officer is responsible for performing a variety of credit review activities which aid in the evaluation of Northwest's consumer and business banking portfolios.
Responsibilities are primarily focused on risk assessment and portfolio administration. They include, but are not limited to, analyzing financial information, determining creditworthiness of borrowers, assessing collateral, evaluating the effectiveness of credit underwriting and portfolio monitoring function, confirming, or establishing an appropriate risk rating. The Credit Review Officer will be responsible for providing objective evaluations of borrower's performance monitoring, risk identification, portfolio management activity, and collection practices in adherence to the Bank's risk profile, policies, and procedures. Additionally, an analysis of the quality of the Bank's portfolio compliance with policies and procedures and other portfolio trends including geographic concentrations, climate risk and emerging credit risk.

Essential Functions


  • Perform credit quality reviews and targeted loan reviews based on emerging risk factors
  • Review electronic files for reporting requirement completeness, identify and record exceptions
  • Adequately assess the creditworthiness of borrowers and other obligors
  • Identify early signs of stress along with actual and potential credit weaknesses
  • Evaluate compliance with the Bank's internal annual credit review and renewal requirements
  • Appropriately validate, and if necessary, adjust risk ratings
  • Identify relevant trends that affect the quality of the loan portfolio
  • Assess the adequacy of and adherence to internal credit policies and loan administration procedures
  • Assess the reasonableness of underwriting's assumptions such as borrower projected cash flow, stress testing, etc.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Monitor compliance with lending policies and procedures
  • Evaluate the adherence to loan approval authorities
  • Recommend improvements to procedures/process and internal controls
  • Present information clearly and communicate with staff and management
  • Evaluate effectiveness of credit policies and procedures, identify weaknesses, provide suggestions for strengthening
  • Be a resource for Credit Administration, Business Banking/Consumer Lending, Loan Servicing, Line of Business Managers, Compliance, and Internal Audit
  • Assist management in the gathering of Auditor/Examiner requests as necessary
  • Participate in weekly team meetings
  • Communicate review progress and emerging risk factors
  • Monitor and report unidentified exceptions to policy
  • Review and monitor the adequacy of the collection of closing conditions
  • Assess the accuracy and effectiveness of the risk rating scorecard
  • Perform financial covenant tests and report on the effectiveness of the covenant structure as it relates to credit risk
  • Evaluate the timeliness and accuracy of risk ratings assigned to borrowers
  • Manage personal pipeline (workload/workflow)
  • Prepare various reports
  • Report loan related exceptions
  • Recommend opportunities for improvement to the credit review process
  • Recommend loans reviewed for collateral reevaluation
  • Detect common themes & emerging risks
  • Continue professional education
  • Ensure compliance with Northwest's policies and procedures, and Federal/State regulations
  • Navigate Microsoft Office Software, computer applications, and software specific to the department to maximize technology tools and gain efficiency
  • Work as part of a team
  • Work with on-site equipment


    Education + Experience preferred

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related
    • 5-6 years of Credit Review or related experience
