POSITION TITLE
Associate Vice President for Institutional Research and Decision Support

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Ball State University is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Associate Vice President for Institutional Research and Decision Support (formerly the Office of Institutional Effectiveness). This position is critical to the successful execution of the University s new strategic plan as we enter our second century. The individual will lead collaborative efforts aimed at effective data governance, data quality, data analytics, along with timely management information that supports operational and strategic decision-making. The IRDS team will work closely with senior leadership to develop and track performance metrics that evaluate the success of the University and its divisions, colleges, and departments in achieving its strategic goals. The AVP is also responsible for ensuring accurate and timely delivery of mandatory and voluntary reporting to federal, state, and other relevant agencies. The AVP oversees and manages the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support team. This position reports directly to the Chief Strategy Officer in the Office of the President.

POSITION FUNCTION

Provides strategic leadership and overall management to the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support. Leads the identification of institutional information needs: collecting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting data and information. Collaborates in leading data governance and information management efforts and promoting ongoing development of institutional analytics capability and maturity as well as a culture of evidence and data-supported decision-making at all levels of the University.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

Bachelor s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

At least five years of progressively responsible experience in institutional research and/or decision support in an institution of higher education. Experience presenting information to institutional leadership. Experience with staff supervision and budget management.

MINIMUM OTHER

AUTHORIZATION TO WORK IN THE US
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

PREFERRED EDUCATION

Earned graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Advanced expertise working with large-scale multi-source databases to serve institutional data, information, and analytic needs. Advanced expertise with statistical and visual analytics software and other applications and their usage in higher education.
Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, procedures and processes governing or related to data confidentiality and security.
Record of successfully-completed projects that demonstrate advanced knowledge of analytic methods in higher education, including qualitative and quantitative research methods.

PREFERRED OTHER

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous internal and external ad-hoc data requests as well as analytic projects and mandatory reporting with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams, including a broad range of internal as well as external constituents.
Strong analytical, communication (written and oral), research, and presentation skills required.
Ability to communicate complex data, information, and analytical results effectively to a broad range of audiences of varying technical expertise.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others to accomplish institutional goals; demonstrated knowledge of contemporary management issues in higher education; ability to demonstrate tact and persuasion.
