Long-Term Care Reports To Chief Operating Officer Position Summary
The Healthcare Facility Administrator is responsible for the
overall leadership, management, and operation of a long-term care
facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and
local regulations while delivering high-quality, resident-centered
care. The Administrator provides strategic direction, oversees
clinical and non-clinical departments, manages financial
performance, and promotes a safe, ethical, and compassionate
environment for residents, families, and staff. Key
Responsibilities Regulatory & Compliance Ensure full compliance
with federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care
facilities (e.g., CMS, state licensing, survey readiness). Oversee
survey preparation, response, and corrective action plans. Maintain
policies and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements and
best practices. Ensure resident rights, safety, and quality of care
standards are upheld. Leadership & Operations Provide overall
leadership and direction to all facility departments, including
nursing, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, social services, and
activities. Foster a culture of quality improvement, teamwork,
accountability, and resident-centered care. Recruit, hire, develop,
and retain qualified staff; oversee performance management and
disciplinary actions. Ensure effective communication among staff,
residents, families, and external stakeholders. Financial
Management Develop, manage, and monitor the facility’s operating
budget. Ensure financial sustainability through effective census
management, cost control, and revenue optimization. Oversee
billing, reimbursement, and financial reporting in coordination
with finance and clinical teams. Approve expenditures and contracts
in accordance with organizational policies. Quality Assurance &
Risk Management Lead quality assurance and performance improvement
(QAPI) initiatives. Monitor clinical outcomes, resident
satisfaction, and operational metrics. Identify and mitigate risk,
including incident management, infection control, and emergency
preparedness. Ensure compliance with safety standards and emergency
preparedness plans. Resident & Family Relations Promote resident
dignity, choice, and quality of life. Address resident and family
concerns promptly and professionally. Support care planning
processes and interdisciplinary collaboration. Serve as a visible
and accessible leader within the facility. Community & External
Relations Represent the facility in the community and with
regulatory agencies. Build positive relationships with hospitals,
referral sources, and community partners. Support marketing and
census development efforts. Qualifications Education & Licensure
Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business
Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred). Current
and valid Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) license (or
state-specific equivalent). Must meet all state and federal
requirements for long-term care administrators. Experience Minimum
of 3–5 years of leadership experience in a long-term care or
skilled nursing facility. Demonstrated experience in regulatory
compliance, financial management, and staff leadership. Proven
track record of successful survey outcomes and quality improvement.
Skills & Competencies Strong leadership, decision-making, and
organizational skills. In-depth knowledge of long-term care
regulations and operations. Excellent communication and
interpersonal abilities. Financial acumen and budget management
skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced
environment. Commitment to ethical practice and resident-centered
care. Work Environment Primarily facility-based with frequent
interaction with residents, staff, and families. On-call
availability may be required for emergencies or regulatory matters.
Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout the facility,
attend meetings, and respond to emergencies. May require occasional
lifting or standing for extended periods.
