The (Muncie) Star Press, thestarpress.com, in Muncie, Ind., part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a full-time photojournalist who is skilled in photo and video and experienced in reporting to join our digital-first news team.
The successful candidate will be committed to high-quality journalism and multimedia storytelling, someone who can easily create multiple photo packages a day, capturing moments of all kinds from high school sports to redevelopment projects to tornado damage. This job requires a great deal of flexibility and interest in local news, as well as extensive coverage of high school and Ball State University sports.
The Star Press visual journalist must be comfortable working with reporters and editors to ensure images complement stories and equally comfortable working independently. We are looking for someone who is curious about all aspects of our community and self-motivated, who understands the importance of digital analytics and how journalists can use those tools to best reach audiences.
Journalism communicates vital information. It helps readers develop connections to each other and their communities, and it challenges both readers and powers-that-be to seek change. If you can do this with a camera, we should talk.

Requirements:
Core photojournalism skills (reporting, photography, and videography, editing software).
Bachelor's degree in journalism is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum experience of at least two years, which could include freelancing, internships, and college publication work.
Knowledge of AP style, command of English grammar and spelling and a fierce commitment to accuracy.
Comfortable in fluid, fast-breaking, stressful situations.
Knows how to use social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to enhance reporting and promote stories.
Understands journalism ethics, sourcing and the digital-first mission.
Contributes to written - in addition to visual - news reporting as needed.
Collaborates well with others and can work with a team on the biggest stories.
News often requires journalists to work extended hours, evenings, weekends and holidays, sometimes unexpectedly.
A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer pre-employment background check and a motor vehicle record check and drug screen.
